WHAT IS REALLY BEHIND SANCTIONING THESE AIRLINES
Five airlines (Easyjet, Clickair, Ryanair, Transavia and Vueling) have been sanctioned by the Catalonian Agency of Consumption from autonomic region of Catalonia, Spain, for abusive practices:
1-Charging an extra amount for buying the airplane ticket with a credit or debit card (Clickair, Easyjet, Ryanair, Vueling)
2-Having activated by default the box for purchusing a traveling insurance, when it is not obligatory (Clickair, EasyJet, Transavia and Vueling)
3-Selling airplane tickets for prices above those established and advertised (Ryanair)
4-Apply prices above to the maximum established in charging for each piece of luggage checked (Clickair, Easyjet and Vueling)
The Catalonian Government has company shares and a position in the management of the Spanish airline Spanair. Spanair also charges an extra amount for buying the airplane ticket with a credit or debit card, but this airline has not been sanctioned at all. In March of 2011 Spanair has reached an agreement with Singapore Airlines in opening a route between Singapore and Sao Paulo, Brasil, with a stop in Barcelona (Barcelona is the largest city of the autonomic region of Catalonia and with the second largest airport in Spain). Singapore Airlines will provide the aircraft for this route. So this means that the Catalonian Government obtains its money by sanctioning other airlines and that way with this money it can help the partially owned airline company Spanair in opening new routes and in making Barcelona an important airline hub and city. Also this will make the autonomic region of Catalonia stronger and the airlines sanctioned are weakened.
